It works (it really does!)

This was a large event. There were 48 rep’s voting, 12 non-voting for a total of 60 members in the room. There were three remote guest. There are 687 affiliated groups and 122 unaffiliated groups, 56 Intergroups’, three National and Language Service Boards within Region 8.  There were 23 Intergroups’ present at the assembly. Three of the five Intergroups’ in Louisiana were represented. There were 13 Green Dot’s (first time reps). In the convention there were over 200.

Lane and Mimi did a wonderful job of presenting the bid for July 9-11, 2010, to be held at the New Orleans Marriot in Metairie at Lakeside Center. COLA Intergroup will be hosting this Region 8 Recovery Convention and Business Assembly. Our theme is “12 Steppin’ In the Big Easy.“ We are going to all pull together to make this a delightful success. Lane and Mimi spent there own money to get themselves to Atlanta I am so proud of them. I know Houma groups are excited about this opportunity to grow and bring more recovery to our area. Together with God’s help we will do it.

There were nominations for Region 8 Chairman. There were three members nominated: Janice S., from Houma, Louisiana,  Stephanie D., from Florida, and Judy P., from Florida.

Nominations for treasurer was Karen C., our current treasurer and the only nominee.

These positions are to be voted on at the next SOAR 8 in Tampa, FL,  November 6-8, 2009.

There were three Region 8 Trustees’ nominated. Region can send up to three nominees to the 2010 WSBC. They are Gerri H., from Florida, Carla S., North Carolina and Ray F., from Florida

Region 8 can send up to five region delegates to WSBC2010, there are 10 members that have been nominated. At the November assembly five will be selected and it depends on the money available on how many will get to go. It is exciding to see members stepping up for service.

There were three proposed changes to the Policy and Procedures Manual; all passed. This was to simplify and clarify the responsibilities of the IGOR Committee (Intergroup Out Reach Committee) and the Twelfth-Step-Within Committee.  There were three Emergency Motions about the budget and these all passed also.

An Ad Hoc Committee was formed and a contest will be held to recreate the SOAR 8 Logo.

The Friday night Discussion Panel of three was excellent.  The topic “Fear of Economic Insecurity will leave us.”

The luncheon, banquet and closing speaker’s were good. The Saturday night entertainment was enjoyable.

Once again COLA, my gratitude is heart felt for being able to be your trusted servant.  I am very rich indeed to be part of this magnificent fellowship. May we each continue to recover.

May God bless all that we are and all that we do.
